Questions aboutPanama real estate often focus on which area is the next 'hot'market. These days, Boca Chica is
often the answer to that question, especially if the discussion revolves around the province of Chiriqui. Boca Chica real estate encompases the best of Panama's Pacific coast. Because Boca Chica has, until very recently,
been a sleepy fishing village, there is none of the clutter on the tiny peninsula often found on the approach to more 'discovered' coastal destinations. The ride down to the Pacific showcases one of Chiriqui's coastal jewels--
a landscape reminiscent of Southeast Asia with lush rolling hills dominated by swaying palms and river vistas. Adding to the appeal of Boca Chica Real Estate is the limited quantity of it. This area of the
Chiriqui Coast is a tiny gem and large parcels are still held by single owners. Finding that perfect lot or single home near
Boca Chica can be a challenge.
Not unlike Pedasi and the the Azuero Peninsula
jumped on investor radar a few years ago, the Chiriqui coast has all the elements
of an attractive destination for tourist and residential development alike. Paricularly intriguing is the possibility
of a marina project nearBoca Chica as
Chiriqui's present facility at Pedregal in David is at near capacity and an
hour's river run to the open sea and the world class waters of the Chiriqui Coast

| Boca Chica is truly one of the treasures of the Chiriqui Province.
Located less than a sixty minute drive from the city of David, this gem of
a destination is a world apart. The newly improved road from the
InterAmerican highway winds through tropical hills and a couple tiny
towns finally reaching its end at the estuary of the Pedgregal River with
the island of Boca Brava just across the water. Dozens of smaller
islands decorate the Pacific Gulf of Chiriqui like lush green jewels. Here,
it is easy to imagine a pirate’s life plying the sea and tucking into a hidden
harbor to count your booty. These days, however, you are more likely
to hide away in one of the growing number of luxury resorts that are
concealed in the nooks and crannies of this most inviting location. You
won’t see a high-rise here. In fact, you have to know where to look to
find those great eco-lodges and boutique hotels. Check our links page
for some of our favorite Boca Chica spots.
You’ve probably read about Panama’s fame as a world-class fishing
destination. Nowhere in this land of fishes are opportunities for
once-in-a-lifetime days at sea so close at hand and in such variety. If
the Paridas islands don’t yield a bite, then you have a choice of Ladrones,
Montuosa and the Secas islands to try your luck further. And, you’ll
have a good choice of experienced captains on a variety of boats to
guide you along the way from the lodges and marine operators in the
area. Local pangas can also be hired at the public ramp that marks the
end of the road.
Boca Chica represents some of the best potential for growing a
thriving tourism destination on the Chiriqui coast that will highlight the
natural beauty and incredible recreation that the province already offers
in the mountains. Those who love the sea will want to consider Boca
Chica as a possibility when looking at property in Panama. While it
is unlikely that the area will ever rival the Azuero in the ambitious scope
of property development due to its diminutive size, there is every reason
to think that smaller developments (like the one already in place at Playa
Hermosa) will someday be a reality. It is to be hoped that any
development in this stunningly lovely place on the rugged Pacific coast
will blend as seamlessly into the environment as demonstrated by the
properties already developed here.
If you plan to visit Boca Chica make sure you’ve got gas in your car!
There are no gas stations at the end of the road. You’ll be able to grab
a cold beer and a ‘tipica’ meal along the way, but the resorts (as of this
writing) are not open to the general public for dining. You might get
lucky on your trek and happen upon a local bull fight (more like a
bull-tease in Panama) held impromptu by cattle farmers in the
area. |
