Coclé belongs to what is known as Panama's Central Provinces. It borders with Panama on the East, Colon
on the North, Veraguas on the West, Herrera on the South West and the Pacific Ocean on the South. Its
name has its origin on the two rivers named Coclé del Norte and Coclé del Sur, but most likely because of
an indian "cacique" named Coclé which dominated the central plains in its early history.
There's a lot to see and do in Coclé, from beaches, mountains, golf, bird watching, and non-traditional
touring. The 800 room Hotel Royal Decameron is located near Farallón, one of Panama's largest all-inclusive
resorts with a capacity for more than 2,500 guests. The Villas of Playa Blanca as well as the brand new
Mantaraya Championship Golf course, located on some of the best beaches of Panama's Pacific coast is
located in Coclé. The Playa Blanca resort has more than 200 hotel rooms, beach condominiums, and a
residential tourism project with more than 1,500 housing units with lakes and a marina. These
beach hotels and resorts play host to important conventions, seminars, and meetings throughout the
year.
Panama's Coclé Province is receiving a lot of attention from investors and much of the overall infrastructure
in the province is benefiting from large sums of foreign direct investment. The developers of the Petaquilla
gold mine north of La Pintada have built a new high quality road into the mountains, making large tracts of
real estate suddenly much more attractive. Coclé has a long coastline on the Pacific Ocean and is attracting
development investments designed with English speaking expatriates and residential tourists in mind.
There are still many excellent opportunities for investment in Coclé.
Penonome is the capital of the province of Coclé and is located about two hour’s drive from Panama
City. Penonome is located on the Zaratí river in central Coclé. Penonome is one of Panama’s last
undiscovered treasures. It is the capital city of the province of Coclé and boasts beautiful mountain
views and crystal clear rivers. Penonome plays a very important role in Panama’s agricultural industry,
and is home to many ranches and orchards.
It is also an area rich in Indian history, and petro glyphs can be found throughout much of this area,
specifically in the area of La Pintada, home to Panama’s cigar industry. It is said that the seeds for the
tobacco used in La Pintada cigars come from the finest Havana strains imported from Cuba. Throughout
Penonome one can find various typical Spanish Colonial buildings that have remained virtually untouched
over time, and still hold their old world charm and beauty. Penonome is also a very festive town and boast
the aquatic carnivals, the orange festival, tomato festival, and the sugar cane festival.
